Summary

Background and aim of the study The quality of care surrounding pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period is a key component of good healthcare. A scientifically developed questionnaire (Quality of Maternity and Newborn Care Framework Index, QMNCFi) has been created internationally to enable women to assess the quality of their care. To date, the questionnaire is only available in English, Arabic and Chinese. The aim of this study is to translate the QMNCFi into German in accordance with recognised scientific standards and to assess whether it can be used reliably and validly in German-speaking countries. The study will also investigate which factors – such as the type and extent of midwifery care – are associated with the perceived quality of care. The study is open to women who gave birth to a child in Germany between 6 and 52 weeks ago. The survey is conducted online. A total of around 500 women are expected to take part. The results are intended to help better assess the quality of obstetric care from the women’s perspective and, in the long term, to support improvements in the care of mothers and newborns.
