A multicentre intervention combining lung health educational sessions and spirometry testing in school-aged children: the LungHealth4Life (LH4L) study
Respiratory health (no specific disease)
The intervention will be administered to all participating children and it will consist of two components: 1) An education session(s) focused on age-appropriate lung health promotion and respiratory disease primary prevention. Materials for the education session were developed by the European Lung Foundation (ELF)’s Healthy Lungs for Life for Schools (HLfL4Schools) initiative, in collaboration with pedagogical and communication experts. These materials are publicly-available in different languages, and will be further adapted to local contexts by the research team of each country. 2) A physical assessment including lung function testing through spirometry, and collection of basic anthropometric measurements. The format in which the intervention is implemented will be adapted according to the regulations and needs of each pilot country. Additional information will be collected from children, their parents and teachers through questionnaires to describe the participants and assess the feasibility of implementing the intervention.
Children aged 6–11 years enrolled in primary schools across Poland, Portugal, and Hungary.
Children's whose parents did not sign the informed consent or who are not willing to participate in the spirometry testing.
